Three related plant carotenoids, included together in the Revitalise formula.
Lutein, zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin are carotenoids, the natural pigments that give many fruits and vegetables their yellow, orange and green colour. Lutein and zeaxanthin are found in leafy greens such as kale and spinach, as well as sweetcorn and egg yolk. Meso-zeaxanthin is much less common in the diet, which is one reason it is often included in a supplement. In the body, all three are concentrated in the macula, the central part of the retina.
Because the body does not readily make them, these carotenoids come mainly from the diet or from supplements.
The lutein, zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin in Revitalise are plant-derived, typically extracted from marigold flowers, and suitable for a vegan diet. We include all three together, the way the macular carotenoids occur in the body, as part of Revitalise's multi-ingredient formula.
Revitalise is designed to bring together well-known nutrients that most people simply do not get enough of from diet alone. Lutein, zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin are among the most talked-about dietary carotenoids, and meso-zeaxanthin in particular is hard to get from food, so we include all three as a considered part of the formula rather than as an afterthought.
In Revitalise, lutein, zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin sit alongside CoQ10, grapeseed extract and vitamins C and E, among eleven active ingredients in one vegan capsule a day. Vitamin C and Vitamin E contribute to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.
